Exoplanets in Your Living Room: Macro Photos of Soap Bubbles

While spending the last 8 weeks at home I’ve been searching for projects that can peak my interest in Photography without going outside or breaking the bank. I’ve spent a lot of time running down the rabbit hole that is youtube thinking about cool ideas and have found some really fun things to put in front of my camera.

I’m starting off with soap bubbles. Admittedly I had no idea I was going to get the types of photos I ended up with! I am taken aback at how beautiful the patterns in these bubbles can be. It takes a bit of messing around to get the settings right, but it comes together really well. Scroll all the way down to see the tutorial I followed along with the tutorial from Mike Smith (below) and made some tweaks to the formula he used with my kit.

The progression above goes from the inception of the bubble all the way to when it nearly pops. I couldn’t believe how the film seems to break up and then nearly disappear. Its amazing how complex these little worlds are!

Try it for yourself at home and mention me on instagram so I can see your results!
