Incredible Fog

This week I witnessed something truly unique. A moment when nature opened up and created an amazing spectacle of fog and mist.

As I arrived at the tidal basin on Friday morning, the fog was set in so thick that I could hardly see across the tidal basin

The fog was dense enough to prevent the viewing of anything across the tidal basin

As I walked around the tidal basin, the fog began to lift slightly, beginning to give some ethereal, almost painterly views of the Martin Luther King Memorial

As the fog began to clear, views across the tidal basin became more clear

As I turned my attention to the Jefferson Memorial, the sky began to clear, revealing the high clouds lit by the rising sun.

Suddenly the sky began to clear while the fog remained at ground level

As the wind began to clear the fog, the silhouette of the Washington Monument came into view.

The clearing sky began to reveal a beautiful reflection in the quiet water of the tidal basin with the rest of the city skyline hidden save for the Monument
