Trusting Your Gut

There are some mornings where the forecast is a slam dunk. There’s no question that it will be a good sunrise. Other mornings you need to trust your gut in despite overwhelming forecasts to the contrary. You hope you’ll get lucky. This morning was the latter.

Nothing would have said this was a morning to go out. All of the forecast apps indicated it would be cloudy. Despite the forecasts, looking at the way the sky had been moving and how broken the cloud cover had been, I took a chance on an iconic location and waited for the sky.

It all started with just a few subtle pinks after the sun was already up. As the clouds moved and revealed a more interesting and layered sky - subtle blue and pink tones made for a dramatic and moody morning.

The detail in the sky was immense. The shifting light and clouds created incredible layers - framing the Lincoln Memorial in against the contrast low bands of clouds. The light above draws your eye from the horizontality of the city up to the turbulence in the clouds above.
