Riding Shotgun

It’s been a while since I’ve tried this, but I’ve always loved long exposure photography. I setup my tripod in the front seat of the car and set off to capture some not standard photos of DC’s Monuments. Driving around Washington, there are numerous areas that present beautiful axial views of the monuments and iconic buildings.

Among the most iconic is Pennsylvania Avenue. providing a beautiful view of the Capitol, the axial route creates beautiful views of the emblematic dome.

Capturing Lincoln proves a little more challenging. Henry Bacon drive provides a great way to get close to the monument. I also tried Memorial Bridge, but I liked this view much better.

If you don’t know Virginia Avenue, it harbors one of the best alignments with the Washington Monument in the city. As you approach the mall you drive past numerous iconic buildings both old and new.

The feeling that these photos capture is uniquely DC to me. The hustle and bustle of life, the speed at which people in DC move while the monuments provide a backdrop.
